Wood
Organic, natural material that comes from trees. Wood isn't an homogeneous material. Depending on the direction of the fibers, wood has certain characteristics that ake it more or less suitable for construction. There are various ways to bond wood such as knitting, hinge, locks and tying. Woods has many advantages because it's natural and it doesn't loose it's properties. The only thing bad about wood is that it has to go through a certain process to protect it from elements like humidity and moisture.
Glass
Glass in an amorfous substance made from silica melted at high temperatures. Glass is amorphous because it's not solid nor liquid. Usually, glasses are colorless and transparent but color can be added to them.
Characteristics:
Hard but fragile, it cannot be scratched but it can be broken.
Glass can melt at very high temperatures.
Allows to create internal climates.
Isolates sound.
Controls solar radiation.
It needs structures.
In past times glass wasn't so used in construction, but nowadays it is more used thanks to the fact that it allows the entrance of light into the construction. Some of the glasses used are tempered, etched, laminated, etc. Nevertheless the most used glasses in construction are flat glass, laminated glass and glass blocks. Before, glass was used only for windows but today it's used for facades, skywalks, entrances, revolving doors, winter gardens and even as traditional walls.
Paragraph 3:
The use of glass in the architecture of Caracas has varied a lot from time to time. In past days, glass was barely used on structures for windows to allow light and air into the rooms. In few words, glass was only used to fulfill a certain purpose and not as an element that could enhance a building. As time went on and architecture began to evolve and to become more artistic, glass also began to occupy a different role in construction. This element began to be more used and nowdays it is one of the most popular materials in construction. This thanks to the fact that glass gives a building a beautiful and modern facade. It's also important to mention that before , glass was mostly used in office buildings , while today it is used in many types of constructions such as houses, hotels, restaurants, dance clubs and others. Even though the use of glass in Caracas' architecture has evolved a lot, it's still not very used like in most parts of the world because it's an expensive material.
